Roller Blind Care: Keep Them Smooth and Lasting for Years

1. A weekly dust routine that works
Lower the blind halfway, sweep the surface with a vacuum fitted with a soft brush or a feather duster, top to bottom. Do not blow the dust away – that only moves it into the rail and the roller shaft. In high-pollution areas (near main roads or industrial zones around Jakarta), do this twice a week.
2. Deep fabric cleaning every 3-6 months
- Vacuum the full surface first.
- Wipe with a damp microfiber cloth and a little neutral detergent for stubborn marks.
- Dry with a clean cloth and leave the blind open until fully dry before rolling it up.
Important: check your fabric type first. Blackout and screen are usually safe to wipe, but some 3D or crinkle fabrics are more sensitive. Message us the fabric brand if unsure.
3. Care for the mechanism: chain, spring and rail
- Make sure the chain ball is never twisted; straighten it as soon as it starts to tangle.
- Clean dust from brackets and the roller shaft ends monthly – these are the most common jam points.
- Do not lubricate randomly; loose oil can stain the fabric. Ask a technician if needed.
4. Habits that destroy blinds
- Pulling the fabric hard when raising or lowering – it breaks at the bracket.
- Hanging heavy objects on the base bar.
- Installing blinds in damp rooms without ventilation – sure rust on metal parts.
- Closing the window during heavy rain so water reaches the rolled fabric.
5. When to call a technician

Seasonal deep care and long breaks matter too. No matter how busy operations get, a fifteen-minute per-quarter inspection beats a weekend of repairs every time. Before the rainy season or a long renovation break, do one full inspection: open every blind fully, wipe the top edge where dust settles, and check the chain ball joints for debris. If blinds will sit unused for weeks, leave them half-open so air circulates and moisture cannot pool inside the roll – this single habit prevents most mildew issues in humid Jakarta weather. Motorized blinds deserve one extra check: run each one a full cycle and listen for grinding or hesitation, which usually means the rail needs cleaning or the motor bracket needs a retighten, both simple fixes that prevent expensive call-outs later.
Keep the original measurement and order details somewhere safe. When parts do need replacing years from now, knowing the exact fabric reference and roll system model speeds up the repair enormously – our technicians can prepare spares before arriving instead of doing a discovery visit first.
